Early lead slips as Pioneers rally at home
DENVER, Colo. — No. 25 Colorado State women's soccer (6-1-0) took its first loss of the year Sunday, falling 2-1 at Denver (3-3-3) at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium.
The Rams struck first and held a dominant opening stretch, but the Pioneers answered with goals in the 23rd and 65th minutes to rally at home. CSU outshot Denver 12-3 and generated nine corner kicks, while the Pioneers made the most of their three shots, putting two in the back of the net.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Colorado State jumped out front early when Mia Casey buried a short-range chance in the 10th minute, giving the Rams a fast 1-0 lead. Denver answered back in the 23rd minute as Emma Thielbahr put the Pioneers on the board. DU took the edge in the 65th when Thielbahr scored again. Despite piling on 12 total shots, including five from Michaela McGowan, the Rams couldn't find an equalizer.
