Outburst Produces Split of the Day

Eight-run frame tops Islanders
Wrapping up the home-opening weekend, Colorado State's softball team earned a draw in a split doubleheader at Ram Field, falling to Northern Colorado 6-3 in Saturday's opener and coming back with 12-4 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Game 1 – Northern Colorado 6, Colorado State 3

The visiting Bears scored solo runs in the first four frames, then added a pair in the fifth to build a lead. The Rams scored on an obstruction call at the plate to tie the game at 1 in the first, then produced a pair of runs in the fifth to tighten the contest.

Kaylynn English carried her hot bat from Friday's set, delivering two of the team's five hits, scoring the opening run. Autumn Rutherford and Brooke Bohlender delivered RBI in the fifth.

Game 2 – Colorado State 12, Texas A&M Corpus Christi 4

The teams met for the third time this weekend and the Rams jumped out to a quick lead with a pair in the first as Bohlender and Kyra Smith each delivered RBI knocks, then Bohlender delivered again in the third for a 3-0 lead.

The Islanders answered with two-run frames in both the fourth and fifth, but the Rams erupted in the home half with a eight-run outburst, then closed out the run rule in the sixth when Lauren Stucky singled in Abby Edwards who had doubled to lead off the stanza.

Smith and Bohlender each had three hits in the game, with Edwards and Stucky delivering two apiece. Bohlender, Stucky, Rutherford and Jailey Wilson all drove in a pair in the contest.
