Colorado State defeats UC Santa Barbara before falling to New Mexico State

LAS CRUCES, N.M.  – The Colorado State softball team split its 2025 opening day competitions at the New Mexico State Invitational Friday, defeating UC Santa Barbara 1-0 before falling to host team New Mexico State 6-4.
 
Game 1 | Colorado State – 1, UC Santa Barbara – 0
  • The Rams jumped out to an early lead in the first inning thanks to a Brooke Bohlender RBI. The catcher batted in Autumn Rutherford who led off the bottom of the first with a double as the freshman's first career hit. Both led the Rams with two hits each.
  • Colorado State lefty Reagan Wick threw a seven-inning, three hit-shutout game to kick off the season featuring five strikeouts.
  • Kaylynn English, Lauren Stucky and Morgan Crosby also recorded hits for the Rams, bring the team total up to seven in the final line score.
  • English also recorded her first career double play on defense when the shortstop took the first out herself at second base before turning the play to Jailey Wilson at first in the third inning.
 
Game 2 | New Mexico State – 6, Colorado State – 4
  • The Rams started the first inning well for the second game in a row, recording four runs in the top of the first thanks to capitalizing on a couple of walks, a single and a wild pitch from New Mexico State.
  • The Aggies stormed back in the third inning, scoring five runs off of the combination of Giselle Bentley and Ferguson before adding one more run in the fourth.
  • Senior Morgan Coleman led the defense with five putouts in left field on the day.
  • Rams who made their collegiate debut on the day include Rutherford, Jac Smith, Clarissa Castillo, Lauren Stucky and Mac Ferguson.
