Rams Determined Heading into MW Championships

LOGAN, Utah – The Colorado State cross country teams will compete in the 21st running of the Mountain West Cross Country Championships Friday at the Steve and Dona Reeder Cross Country Course on the campus of Utah State.
It has been two weeks since the last time the Rams have been in action, giving ample time for preparation for the championship stretch of the season. The MW pre-championship poll has both the men's and women's squad pinned to finish fifth in the conference.
The field consists of five nationally ranked squads, including three on the women (#11 New Mexico, #13 Boise State, and #14 Air Force), and two on the men's side (#18 Boise State and #22 Utah State).
Race Times
Men's 8K – 10:00 a.m.
Women's 6K – 10:45 a.m.

On preparation since last meet…
"This year's team, the training has been phenomenal all year. It has been very consistent. We track what we have been doing and there are variations from year-to-year, but this team is strong. It is not that we don't have the talent or fitness. We have had some things go well for us. We are in a good place going into the championship season, being ranked fifth on both sides, so we are definitely in the underdog role, which will suit our young team well. We go in with the mentality of having not a lot to lose. It is a tough conference as there are multiple ranked teams on both sides. Especially on the women's side, the top three teams are very strong, but after them I think we match up well with the rest of the field. On the men's side, I think we haven't shown our true potential, so we will see. We will go in there and not be afraid of the nationally ranked teams. I think we'll go in there and run aggressive and finish well. This weekend changes your season and really it is where it begins. Some teams get tired or sick or have injuries, so if you go into this part of the season healthy and have the talented athletes then a lot can happen."
On course and weather…
"Being in Colorado, the weather for us will be fine. It's going to be cold, but we are as used to it as anybody. We are prepared gear-wise so we are organized for whatever the environment is for race day. The student-athletes are mentally prepared so that won't be a factor. We are familiar with the course as we had regionals a few years ago there and preformed well. It should fit us well."
Rams Competing
Men's Race: Forrest Barton, Satchel Caldwell, Jacob Brueckman, Maximilliano Martinez, Michael Mooney, Thomas Chaston, Brock Dykema, Mason Brown, Matt Begeman
Women's Race: Lily Tomasula-Martin, Ashlyn Hillyard, Devon Peterson, Sarah Carter, Emma Atwell, Claudia Burgess, Lauren Offerman, Hailey Leader, Jenna Diers
