Match Preview: No. 23 Rams Begin Conference Schedule this Week

THE WEEK
• The No. 23 Colorado State volleyball team continues action in Moby Arena and begins its Mountain West Conference schedule with two matches this week.
• The Rams will welcome their first MW opponent of the season, New Mexico, on Thursday night for a 7 p.m., start.
• Following the mid-week match, CSU will face UNLV on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
CONFERENCE OPENER
• After starting the season with 12 non-conference matches, the Rams will begin their conference schedule this week.
• Head Coach Tom Hilbert is 18-2 in conference openers, including a perfect 11-0 in Moby Arena.
• His two losses were on the road in 2012 and 2006.
LOOKING AHEAD
• Following this weekend, the Rams will hit the road for just the second time this season for four matches.
• CSU will head to Wyoming on Tuesday, Sept. 26 for a 6:30 p.m., match before heading south to Air Force on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m.
• Following the area opponents, the Rams will begin October traveling to Boise State on Thursday, Oct. 5 and Utah State on Saturday, Oct. 7.
RAMS AT A QUICK GLANCE
• The Rams enter the week with a 10-2 record and ranked No. 23 in the AVCA Poll.
• CSU moved down one spot in the poll after recording a 2-1 record last weekend at the CSU Tournament II, which included sweeping Albany and Xavier.
• The Rams rank fifth in the nation in hitting percentage with a .319 tick, 30th in blocks per set with a 2.67 mark and 86th in aces per set with a 1.45 average.
• Katie Oleksak continues to lead the conference with an 11.91 assist average, which also is No. 7 in the nation.
• Paulina Hougaard-Jensen is ranked No. 15 in DI in hitting percentage with a .428 tally.
OPPONENTS AT A QUICK GLANCE
• New Mexico enters the match with an 8-4 record after posting a 2-1 record last weekend at the Blue/Gold Invitational.
• Lobos' Mariessa Carrasco was named the Mountain West Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week.
• UNLV will start the week with a 4-9 record and will face Wyoming on Thursday night before playing the Rams on Saturday afternoon.
• The Rebels have been on a slide, losing eight of their last nine matches, including getting swept in the Hoosier Classic last weekend.
