Ram punter one to watch for best in the nation

FORT COLLINS – Colorado State's Bryan Hansen has been added to the watch list for the Ray Guy Award, the organization announced on Monday.

The Ray Guy Award – named for football's premier punter – honors the nation's best collegiate punter in FBS on an annual basis. Hansen's performances in the first two games of the season have built a strong case as the Ram has averaged 52.2 yards per punt across his five attempts. The redshirt junior's average would rank second nationally were he eligible for rankings, which require 3.6 punts per game to be considered. Hansen's leg has also produced an average hangtime of 3.91 seconds per punt, limiting opponents to just 11 return yards.

The Ray Guy Award winner is selected by a voting body of FBS sports information directors, national media and former Ray Guy Award winners. Punters are evaluated on their overall statistics and contribution to the team. Particular emphasis is placed on the following statistics: net punting average, percentage of total punts inside the 20-yard line, and percentage of punts not returned. Colorado State is no stranger to the Ray Guy Award as Hayden Hunt was named one of three finalists for the 2015 award.

Hansen and the Rams enter the first bye week of the season following an Ag-Day win over Northern Colorado on Saturday. The Rams are set to take the field again on Sept. 20 when UTSA visits Canvas Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
