Women post third straight Top-25 finish; men place 28th in return

STILLWATER, Okla. – With a brisk 35-degree morning, the Colorado State's cross country teams made their return to the NCAA Championships together for the first time in 18 years, the women qualifying for the third consecutive year, the men making their first appearance since 2018.

The women produced their third straight Top-25 finish, placing 25th with 548 points in the 6K race in a competition won by North Carolina State. as the women started the day finishing 25th in the 6K race, followed by the men placing 28th in the 10K with a score of 704. Northern Arizona won the men's title.

"It was not quite the day we were hoping for, but I am so proud of both teams making it to the National Championships," first-year CSU coach Andrew Epperson said. "The road to nationals is brutal and the meet itself is even tougher. The women got out great but didn't quite have the strong finish we've seen in the last two meets. The men were tough and were one spot off of what they were ranked.

"Both teams learned a lot from today and have a positive foundation to continue carrying the programs forward."

On the women's side, Sarah Carter paced the Rams finishing 43rd overall at 20:15.0, consistently moving up throughout the race, including 11 spots in the final 1K-plus to set a career time. Lily Tomasula-Martin followed in 137th at 20:51.2 and Claudia Burgess next at 144th with a 20:52.7 mark.

The men were led by Mason Brown, crossing in 30:31.6 for 141st followed by Tom Oates in 144th with a 30:34.0 time.
