SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Colorado State softball team suffered a pair of losses in the opening day of the San Diego Classic. The Rams dropped a close game in the opener, 1-0 to Oregon State in eight innings. CSU finished the day with a 7-2 setback to co-host San Diego.

Box Score
Oregon State had its largest production in the opening frame, loading the bases off two hits but the Rams' defense gained traction and put down the next three batters to escape.
Colorado State looked to get on the board in the bottom of the first, putting runners on the corners but could not find a base hit to score a run.
Both team's defenses were clicking as the next inning went quickly with neither team getting a runner on. The Rams threaten again in the bottom of the third with runners in scoring position, but again came up empty.
Neither team could put a runner in position to score the rest of the game to force extra innings, so the international tie breaker rule came into place. Oregon State started with a baserunner on second and scored them with two outs in the top of the eighth after a miscue off a single allowed the runner to advance home.
The Rams also started with a baserunner on second, but could not generate any hits to move them, going down in order to finish the game.
