DAVIS, Calif. - Led by the defense of Emily Chambers and Emily McCullough, and powered by Shannon Kohl's four scores, Colorado State finished its first day in the Davis Shootout with a 13-9 triumph over conference foe Cal State East Bay at the Schaal Aquatics Center Saturday afternoon.

With the win, CSU rebounded from a tough, 13-3 loss to Cal State Bakersfield in the Rams' tournament opener early Saturday morning. The Rams now have won three of their last five games.

The nightcap victory gives CSU (9-22, 7-11 Western Water Polo Association) important momentum heading into its final day of the regular season, with critical conference tilts on tap Sunday against No. 16 Santa Clara and Cal State Monterey Bay.

Kohl, a sophomore driver from Jenison, Mich., registered a single-game season high with her four goals against East Bay, matching her career best (2007 vs. Sonoma State). She now has scored in seven straight games, a streak that ties for eighth-longest streak in school history. Annie Quinn also posted a hat trick, with three goals, while Ali Pavlik (2), Orsi Nadasdy (2), Sarah Ostling and Chambers also scored.

And, the Rams got a solid effort from goalies Kayley Provow, who started the contest, and closer Krysyna McCright, who preserved the win in the fourth quarter. For the second time this season, Provow rejected a penalty shot, preserving a fragile CSU lead in the third quarter.

East Bay entered the CSU contest with a winning record, 10-9. Two of the Pioneers' 10 losses this season now have come at the hands of the Rams. CSU also topped East Bay March 1 at the Santa Cruz Slugfest, 9-8.

Earlier in the day, the Rams couldn't overcome a 6-0 halftime deficit en route to a 13-3 loss to Bakersfield. In that contest, Kohl, McCullough and Quinn had one goal each. CSU posted an incredible 29 shots on goal, including nine from Kohl, but several of those attempts ricocheted off the pipes.

Sunday, the Rams conclude their regular season, playing their final official games before the WWPA championships April 27-29 in Los Angeles. The Rams will be at home for an exhibition contest against Weber State April 18, a 7 p.m. game at the Edora Pool Ice Center in Fort Collins.

CSU closes the Davis Shootout Sunday against Santa Clara at 9:15 a.m. PDT and Cal State Monterey Bay at 3:30 p.m. PDT.
