Rams Earn Split on First Day of Michigan Kick-Off

Ann Arbor, Mich. - The Colorado State University water polo team earned an 8-3 win over Slippery Rock and a 7-6 loss to Marist in the second period of sudden death overtime to open its 2007 season. The Rams, in their third year of intercollegiate competition, will face Indiana and Michigan on Sunday.
In the day's first game, CSU jumped out to a 4-1 advantage at the half before closing the game ahead 8-3 over Slippery Rock. Four Rams tied for team honors with two goals apiece including Sarah Ostling, Emily Chambers, Laurien White and Annie Quinn. Goalkeepers Dre Lugo (7) and Krystyna McCright (12) combined for 19 saves in the victory.
In the nightcap, CSU played Marsit to a 5-5 tie with a Ram goal in the fourth period sending the game to extra frames. Both teams went scoreless through the first three-minute overtime and scored one goal apiece in the second before Marist claimed the upper hand in the second sudden death overtime period of the game. Quinn and White each had two goals for the Rams while Shannon Kohl and Monica Schuh each had one. McCright was also solid in the net for Colorado State turning away 12 shots in the game.
CSU (1-1) will conclude play in the Michigan Kick-Off Sunday morning with games against Indiana and host school Michigan.
