After a knee injury sidelined him for the 1974 campaign, Cyphers returned in 1975 as an offensive lineman, helping block for star running back Ron Harris. Cyphers also played catcher on the 1974 CSU baseball team and wrestled as a heavyweight in 1976 and 1977 before the same knee sidelined him again. Named a co-captain on the 1976 and 1977 teams, Cyphers earned All-WAC honors in the 1976 season.
