Larry LaSasso, a 1934 Colorado A&M cheerleader and graduate, donned his Aggie cheerleading uniform for home football games and led the student section in cheers for decades. LaSasso passed away in 2005, but still was on the sidelines leading cheers until just before his death.
LaSasso attended the games donned in a green tam, green spirit sweater, and Scottish-style kilt.
In 1983, the athletics department initiated an award to honor his spirit and pride in the university. The Larry LaSasso Spirit Award is presented annually to an individual who best displays the same support, enthusiasm, and dedication toward CSU as its namesake. Winners of the award are honored annually during a selected home football game.
