LOS ANGELES, Calif.—Six Colorado State water players were honored by the Western Water Polo Association, as Kelcy Barott, Morgan Hurley, Megan Richardson, Brianna Sherrin, Michelle Slagle and Stephanie Weed were each named to the WWPA All-Academic team.
The award is Weed’s third honor in three seasons as a member of the water polo team. Slagle is also a repeat recipient, also being honored in 2012.
In all, 59 student-athletes were selected for their work in the classroom. In order to earn recognition by the conference, one must hold a 3.0 cumulative GPA, play in at least 50 percent of her team’s games and be classified as a full-time student who has completed a minimum of one semester at her institution.
The water polo program has had a long-standing tradition of success in the classroom, earning 42 total WWPA All-Academic selections since the conference began the award in 2007. In 2012, the program was one of 13 Division-I programs with a team cumulative GPA above 3.0, the team’s second straight selection.
CSU water polo played its final season in 2013, tying a program record with a fourth-place finish in both the regular season and WWPA Championships.
