Rams earn 72 MW Scholar-Athlete nods for 2012-13

June 24, 2013

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A record 64 Colorado State student-athletes earned a total of 72 Scholar-Athlete awards from the Mountain West for their work in the classroom during the 2012-13 academic year. The conference made the announcement Monday afternoon.

The 64 individuals honored is a program record, one more than in 2009-10, when 63 Rams were recognized. The 72 overall selections ties CSU’s all-time mark, also set in 2009-10. In all, 623 student-athletes were honored by the MW, a league most.

The student-athletes honored by the MW represent all 16 of CSU’s varsity athletic programs, including eight student-athletes — Seth Butler, Andrew Goodman, Elle Killingsworth, Christian Meyer, Jacob Morgan, Alex Muntefering, Marina Roberts and Ali Will — who were recognized twice for their efforts as part of the CSU cross country and indoor/outdoor track & field programs.

Sisters Tara DeMuth and Tasia DeMuth (swimming & diving), Caitlin Duffy (women’s basketball) and Kalie Kirk (women’s track & field) were four of 54 individuals throughout the MW to post perfect 4.00 cumulative grade-point averages.

The MW Scholar-Athlete award is the highest academic honor bestowed by the conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.

The Rams’ 64 Scholar-Athlete award winners are:
