RIVERSIDE, Calif. - CSU's water polo team finished the Lancer Invite 4-0, completing its first undefeated tournament of the season, and simultaneously climbed above .500 overall after defeating Redlands 5-4 at Redlands' Thompson Aquatic Center, and beating Cal Baptist 8-2 at the host's Lancer Aquatics Center.

The afternoon win over Cal Baptist propelled the Rams (13-12, 8-2 Western Water Polo Association) to a winning record for the first time this season. The Rams shut out the Lancers for the first three periods en route to the victory. The offense and defense each performed very well in the win.

"We put together four good periods," coach Mike Moody said. "We were very strong offensively and Krystyna McCright played one of the best games I've ever seen her play."

Moody accredited the strong offensive play to a strong defensive corps, followed by a dominant inside and outside attack.

"Kailin Custy and McCright quarterbacked the defense, which then led to a very aggressive offensive attack," Moody said.

Ali Pavlik scored four times, including two in the final frame. Sarah Ostling earned two goals and Orsi Nadasdy and Emily Chambers each added points against the Lancers. McCright finished with 12 saves.

The importance of the success of this tournament for CSU was recognized by Moody. "It was a huge weekend," Moody said. "We're very excited about the total team effort. We're starting to find our own identity."
