Water Polo Falls Twice to Ranked Opponents

Santa Cruz, Calif. - The Colorado State women's water polo team suffered an 11-4 loss to No. 18 Santa Clara and a 12-5 setback to No. 19 Cal State Bakersfield on the first day of the UC Santa Cruz Slugfest Saturday.

In the morning game, CSU's Annie Quinn netted two goals while Monica Schuh and Laurien White each added one in the 11-4 loss to Santa Clara. Andrea Lugo made seven saves in the game for the Rams as well.

In the nightcap, CSU fell behind 1-0 in the first quarter to CSB before allowing six unanswered goals in the second and ending with a 12-5 loss. Quinn notched three goals and Monica Schuh and Shannon Kohl each had one in the Ram loss. Freshman Krystyna McCright continued her solid work in net turning away 10 shots in the game.

CSU (3-5, 1-2 WWPA), will face Cal State East Bay and Sonoma State in the final day of the UCSC Slugfest on Sunday.
