Dec. 6, 2016

Full List of All-Region recipients

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Colorado State freshman setter Katie Oleksak was named to the AVCA All-Pacific North Region team, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced today. Redshirt freshman middle blocker Kirstie Hillyer received Honorable Mention All-Region recognition, as well.

Oleksak becomes the first CSU freshman to be named all-region since Megan Plourde in 2009. The Rams have had at least one player earn all-region accolades every year since 2007.

Oleksak, the Mountain West Freshman of the Year, ranks 16th nationally in assists and first among all freshmen. The Phoenix, Arizona native is the only player in the NCAA to average 11-plus assists, 2-plus digs and at least 0.90 blocks per set. Her 0.94 blocks per set rank second among all setters in the country. She set a pair of CSU assists records under the current 25-point rally scoring format, tallying the most single-match assists in both a four-set and five-set match. Her 71 assists vs. Wyoming on Nov. 22 was the third-most by any setter in the NCAA this season.

The freshman setter was one of just two freshmen named All-Pacific North Region, joining Kathryn Plummer of Stanford.

Hillyer, the Mountain West Newcomer of the Year, led the conference and ranks fourth nationally in blocking, averaging 1.59 blocks per set. The Rams rank second in the NCAA in blocking as a team, with Hillyer leading the way at the net. Hillyer reached double-digit blocking totals in four matches, and posted a double-double against Wyoming on Nov. 22 (13 kills, 10 blocks). The Bayfield, Colorado native also contributed 2.50 kills per set (third on the team) on .327 hitting.

Oleksak and Hillyer were two of five freshmen to have started for the Rams in 2016, and among six total to see playing time.

CSU (21-9, 15-3 MW) advanced to its 22nd consecutive NCAA Tournament after finishing second in the Mountain West. The Rams also reached the 20-win plateau for the 22nd year in a row.
