FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The undefeated Colorado State women’s volleyball team has secured a berth to play in its 19th straight NCAA tournament after winning a fifth consecutive Mountain West title earlier this month. Now, CSU will wait to hear its name called Sunday, and see who and where the Rams will play.
Fans are encouraged to be part of the festivities at Fuzzy’s Taco Shop (1335 W. Elizabeth St., No. 125). Beginning at 6:30 p.m., the entire team and coaching staff will be on hand, and starting at 7:30, the official selection show will air on ESPNU.
Head Coach Tom Hilbert will address the crowd prior to the pairings about what he expects to see, and after the Rams learn who they will be playing, he again will speak, previewing the team’s first-round matchup. He and the team will be available for interviews with accredited media afterward.
The ninth-ranked Rams close out the regular season this week, looking to remain undefeated on the season. Since 2000, six teams have gone perfect through their regular season, and none since 2009. A victory either Wednesday or Friday will secure the program’s best-ever winning percentage, and the team is expected to set a new single-season attendance record. Through 13 matches, the Rams are drawing nearly 3,200 fans per contest, which ranks eighth nationally.
CSU will play San Diego State Wednesday (7:30 p.m.), the preseason favorite to win the MW, and UNLV Friday (7 p.m.). Friday’s contest is Senior Night. Prior to the match, CSU’s three seniors – Cayla Broadwater, Samantha Peters and Michelle Smith – will be recognized, and afterward, the team will be presented with its fifth straight conference championship trophy.
Tickets for either match can be purchased at the McGraw Athletic Center ticket office, over the phone at 1-800-491-RAMS and online.
