LEXINGTON, Ky. — Now one of just four undefeated teams in the country, the Colorado State volleyball team continues to climb the national rankings, moving up to No. 17 in the AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll on Monday. The two-spot jump comes after a pair of road wins last week against Air Force and New Mexico.
The ranking is CSU’s highest since Sept. 5, 2011, when the Rams were ranked No. 14 after upsetting No. 5 Nebraska at Moby Arena. CSU (12-0, 3-0 MW) has now been ranked three consecutive weeks after beginning the season receiving votes. The Rams were unofficially ranked 38th in the preseason poll, followed by 31st, 26th, 22nd, 19th and now 17th. In the program’s storied history, the Rams have been ranked 238 total weeks, more frequently than all but 14 teams in the NCAA.
CSU earned a three-set sweep at Air Force last Thursday before a five-set win at New Mexico. The Rams won the first two sets, and were one point away from a sweep, before the Lobos fought back to win sets 3 and 4. They led 11-8 in Set 5 before CSU staged a dramatic comeback, taking seven of the final nine points to win the match and improve to 12-0.
Joining CSU as the only remaining undefeated teams are Missouri, North Carolina and Washington. The Huskies moved up to No. 1 in the country after last week’s top team, Penn State, lost to Michigan State. It marks the fifth time in six polls that the No. 1 team has changed. Rounding out the top five is Southern California, Florida, Texas and Penn State. Texas A&M, which CSU swept on Sept. 21, received 24 points (32nd).
CSU will play one match this week, traveling to Reno, Nev., to take on the Nevada Wolf Pack on Thursday night (8 p.m. MT). The match can be viewed through the Mountain West Network.
