CSU volleyball moves up to No. 14 in AVCA Top 25
Sept. 13, 2010
By Danny Mattie FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Fresh off of a 3-0 showing at the inaugural Rams Volleyball Classic presented by Poudre Valley Health System, the Colorado State volleyball team moved up one spot to No. 14 in the latest AVCA Coaches’ Top 25 poll released Monday afternoon. The Rams improved to 8-1 over the weekend, tallying a trio of three-set sweeps over Texas Tech, Northeastern and Illinois State at Moby Arena. CSU’s lone loss of the season came Sept. 4 at then-No. 6 Florida, a 3-1 setback, at the Gators’ own Campus USA Credit Union Invitational. Florida is now up to No. 3 in the poll. Colorado State has now been ranked for eight consecutive weeks dating back to the end of the 2009 season. The Rams, riding a three-match winning streak, will look to improve their record with a pair of tough home matches against Virginia Commonwealth and No. 24-ranked Long Beach State this Thursday and Friday, respectively. Both matches begin at 7 p.m. Friday’s match vs. LBSU is the Rams’ first against a ranked opponent at home this season. CSU is 23-10 under Head Coach Tom Hilbert against nationally ranked opponents at Moby Arena. The Rams have defeated five straight ranked opponents at home, dating back to a 3-0 victory over No. 13 Ohio State on Aug. 30, 2007. During that stretch, the Rams have also hosted and beaten Florida (No. 8 on Sept. 13, 2008), BYU (No. 24 on Sept. 20, 2008), Arizona (No. 25 on Oct. 4, 2008), and Washington (No. 6 on Dec. 4, 2009).
