Fort Collins -- In front of 1,926 fans in Moby Arena -- a large part comprised of students, the Colorado State volleyball team defeated instate rival Colorado in four games, 25-30, 30-20, 30-22, 30-20 to improve to 5-2 on the year. With the loss the Buffs fall to 6-2.

Sophomore outside hitter Tess Rogers led the Rams with 17 kills, while junior outside Becky Sarauer had 15 kills and hit a team-best .364 (15-3-33) and junior middle blocker added 12 kills and a .333 hitting percentage (12-4-24). Junior libero Lindsey Kerr added 10 digs and junior transfer Bri Frech had a season and career-high eight blocks. Freshman Kristen Karlik tallied a career-high three service aces, as did Frech.

“We are very happy to get the win over CU,” said head coach Tom Hilbert. “It’s a fun rivalry. CU is a bit young and they played like it after game one. Our team stepped it up at the same time.”

Colorado was led by senior middle blocker Monique Gerlach with 15 kills, while Allie Griffin chipped in 11 kills and 11 digs plus seven blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Nicole Carr also had 10 digs in the loss.

“Becky (Sarauer) was fabulous tonight,” Hilbert continued. “I’m very proud of her and her ability to play at the top level.”

Colorado State will be on the road for the next three weeks starting on Friday at the Kansas State Invitational against LSU. On Saturday, the Rams will face South Florida and #12 Kansas State in Manhattan. The next home match for the Rams will be Friday, Oct. 3 against UNLV.
