FORT COLLINS, Colo. - "The Big Year" for CSU volleyball is almost here and fans throughout the region will now have a chance to see the Rams on a record number of occasions.
On Wednesday, the CSU athletic department announced that two more Rams games have been added to its 2008 television schedule bringing the total number of broadcasts to a record seven games.
"This is a great opportunity for CSU fans throughout the region to watch their team play," said Head Coach Tom Hilbert. "We expect to give our fans a lot to cheer about this season both in person and at home as they watch us on TV."
The newly added games include an early-season showdown with SEC foe Florida who finished the 2007 season ranked eighth in the country after a 29-3 season. The game, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. MT, will take place at Moby Arena as part of the Coors Rocky Mountain Challenge and will be broadcast by the mtn. The other addition is a MWC showdown a week later as rival BYU comes to Fort Collins. That match will be Saturday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. MT and will be broadcast by Comcast.
The Rams, fresh off a 23-win season and their 13th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament, return 10 letterwinners including All-American middle blocker, Mekana Barnes. CSU was also recently chosen by the conference's coaches as the preseason favorites to win the MWC while Barnes was named preseason Player of the Year.
This year Moby Arena will also play host to one of four NCAA Regionals in which the winner advances to the NCAA semifinals. The event will take place on Dec. 12 and 13 at CSU and tickets for the two-day regional are on sale now.
