Colorado State volleyball coach Tom Hilbert has been selected to coach a USA Select Team of collegiate volleyball players to play in Argentina and senior outside hitter Tess Rogers has also been chosen on the team.
The Argentine Federation asked Bringit Promotions -- a tour agency that helped the Rams last season on their trip to Europe - to bring a group of strong collegiate players to Buenos Aires in early June to help prepare their Junior National Team for the summer’s competitions. The USA teams will be playing against the Argentine Junior National Team, as well as various matches against the Argentina Youth National Team, Senior “B” Team, and possibly some professional and/or club programs in cities like Rosaria, Cordoba, and/or Mendoza near the Chilean border. Bringit Promotions also expects to play in front of 2000+ fans in neighborhoods and suburbs of Buenos Aires such as Olavarria, Zarate, and Los Toldos.
Hilbert and Rogers will leave for Argentina on June 7 and return on June 19 and play six matches on the trip. Hilbert will be assisted by Michigan Head Coach Mark Rosen, while the other USA Select team will be coached by former USA National Team Assistant Coach Kevin Hambly.
“It’s great for Tess to be going on this trip,” said Hilbert. “Since she was injured last summer when we took our European tour this is a great opportunity for her to play international competition. I’m doing it because it sounds like a lot of fun.”
Other players going on the tour include BYU’s Rachel Dyer, Renata Dargan from Purdue, Baylor’s Emily Houston, LSU’s Regan Hood, Sydney Bennett from Pacific and Brigitte Slack from Alabama. Several other student-athletes from the Missouri Valley, Big Ten and Big XII will be on the trip.
