Ljubljana has similar architecture to Prague, particularly along the Ljubljana River.
We got to sleep in this morning, not leaving the hotel in Maribor until 10
a.m. Once again, we have a cold, overcast day. A lot of us were a little
unprepared for the cold weather and have been in the same sweatshirt for a few
days now. From the hotel we rode the bus to the mountain where we rode to the
top in groups of four on the gondolas.
It was a breathtaking view of the whole city. We hiked down a little ways to
an outdoor cafe where the owner was great. He had a huge pot of raspberry tea
-- tasted like hot Kool-Aid -- and a fire going for us since it was pretty
chilly. We ate a great mushroom and cheese soup but it got really cold and
started to rain so we moved down the hill a little ways to another restaurant
to finish our lunch of pork ribs and mashed potatoes and topped it off with a
chocolate bread with a carmel swirl.
We then hiked back up the mountain to the gondolas, rode them down and drove
to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. We got here and checked into the
hotel. A small group walked around town a little bit and then headed off to
We walked to the match since the gym was about two blocks down the road. We
defeated the Slovenian Junior National Team in four games, with Casey Bauer
again leading the team in kills. Everyone got to play quite a bit and it was
a great match for the younger players on the team.

We walked back to the hotel, gave everyone 20 minutes and walked to the bus
station to head downtown. The staff and Bring It USA crew ate at a Mexican
restaurant (first time for Mexican on the trip) and the team stayed together and ate at a little Italian Bistro.
After dinner everyone returned to the hotel. A lot talked to their families
and some did laundry because the hotel, for the first time, has a free washer
and dryer for the guests use. The dryer is a huge luxury for Europe. Most
places hang their clothes to dry. We're in Ljubljana all day tomorrow as well
before we head to Italy for the last few days.
