April 13, 2006 The Colorado State volleyball team today announced the signing of Sydney Blancarte to a National Letter of Intent. Blancarte, a 6-0 middle blocker/outside hitter from Alamo, Calif., will enroll at Colorado State for the fall of 2006. Blancarte was a first team All-Bay Valley Athletic League selection, leading Carondelet High School to the 2004 BVAL title and a No. 1 seed in the North Coast Section playoffs. Picked as the nation's No. 71 top recruit by PrepVolleyball.com, she also led her Golden Bear 18-Forefront team to a top 10 finish at the 2004 Junior Olympic Championships. She attended Diablo Valley Community College in 2005, but did not participate in volleyball. "Sydney is a versatile player with a very good background," said head coach Tom Hilbert. "She has had a high level of skill training and is very fundamentally sound. We expect her to be an active player immediately, playing several different positions for us." Blancarte joins Jonelle Wallace, Katelin Batten and Katie O'Hara from the fall signing period.
