Moby Arena's playing court is undergoing a major facelift, the first of its kind since 2006.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The final touches are being applied to the court of Moby Arena, closing a four-week project, the first of its kind since 2006.
Every two years, Moby Arena’s playing court gets repaired for small dings and chips, and every six to seven years it receives a larger facelift, where approximately one-32nd of an inch of wood is sanded down and the court is repainted. This year’s project began on April 15, and is expected to conclude by the end of the week.
The main improvements, which are outlined in Part 1 of the project updates, include:
- The words ‘Colorado State’ replacing ‘Rams’ on both baselines near the baskets. The text is now painted gold with a white outline instead of the color of the wood court.
- Also painted in gold is the word ‘Rams’ above midcourt near the scorer’s table.
- The Ram head logo, seen at center court, now mirrors the athletic department’s traditional logo with the face and horns painted in white, and outlined in green with a gold border. Previously, the white was replaced with the court’s natural wood. With ‘Colorado State’ now written on both baselines, the wording is no longer printed below the Ram head.
- The Mountain West logo, which has always been seen near each free throw line, now has a CSU touch to it, being painted green and gold instead of the conference’s purple and gray.
With everything painted, the crew is now applying finishing touches. Today, a protective coat will be applied, giving the floor a traditional glazed look. While the arena has been closed during the entire process, it is now even more strictly enforced as all doors are locked and ventilation turned off to prevent any dust particles making their way onto the top coat.
Finishing touches will be made on Thursday and Friday, before the court will again be open to activity and commencement ceremonies next week. Look for the third and final installment of the project next week, with photos of the final product.
