Colorado State's Dasha Zhurin and Emily Kirchem each claimed singles victories in the final day of the U.S. Air Force Academy Women's Fall Invitational on Saturday. The wins gave CSU singles players an 8-7 record for the tournament.
Zhurin claimed her win in the fifth-place match in the first flight defeating Georgia Southern's Stephanie Tyrell 6-3, 6-1 while Kirchem claimed third place in the second flight defeating Stephanine Ginsburg of Denver 6-3, 6-2.
Senior Alex Paganetti suffered a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Gleisy Torres in the fifth-flight championship to claim second in the tournament.
CSU's Jasmin Singh and Carla Pallares each fell on Saturday finishing the tournament with identical 1-2 records. Singh lost 6-2, 6-1 to Lauren Wilson of Air Force and Pallares' setback came in a 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 loss to New Mexico's Jennifer Ryba.
In doubles play, the CSU tandem of Jasmin Singh and Alex Paganetti claimed an 8-4 win over Jennifer Ryba and Nora Quintal of New Mexico before falling to Colorado's Lynzee Kever and Jenny Hanson in the championship match.
In first flight doubles, Dasha Zhurin and Emily Kirchem were defeated by New Mexico's Michelle Heidbrink and Lucy Scott 8-5 before falling to Kendall Exelby and Tea Spirta of UTEP in the third-place match.
Carla Pallares teamed with Jessica Vanderkooi of Georgia Southern losing to Denver's duo of Stephanie Ginsburg and Crystal Knysh before winning against Jane McDonald and Lauren Wilson of Air Force 8-5.
The Rams' next action will be on October 20 when they travel to Tulsa, Okla. to compete in the ITA Central Region Championships.
