FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State women’s tennis team wraps up the fall season in Las Vegas, Nev., at the 2013 USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Region Championships which begins on Wednesday and runs through Sunday.
Juniors Natalie Heffron and Adriana Wojakowska will represent the Rams at the event which is held at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on UNLV’s campus.
“It’s a good tournament and all the teams in the region are in it,” Head Coach Jon Messick said. “It’s a big draw and you never know who you are going to play. It’s a good test for players to fight through a regular draw.”
Heffron, who has rattled off four singles victories in the Rams’ last two tournaments, will match up against Idaho’s Vicky Lozano. Wojakowska has a tough first match versus Wena Tsan from Montana State.
In doubles action, Heffron and Wojakowska will combine to face Utah’s Sarah Richter and Luisa Gerstner da Rosa.
Messick calls the ITA regionals the toughest tournament that the team will play in all year, but the CSU juniors are prepared for the challenge. Injuries to senior Kaley Schultz and sophomore Jennifer Weissmann have forced Heffron and Wojakowska to play their opponents' best players.
Wednesday’s first round gets underway with doubles at 10 a.m. MT and will be followed with a full round of singles action. Each participant is guaranteed at least two matches as there will be a consolation draw in both singles and doubles.
Singles and doubles champions will advance to the 2013 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, held in Flushing, N.Y. at the UTSA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Nov. 7-10.
