Tori Arneson defeated Kaley Schultz to take first place at the ITA circuit tournament

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Hosted by CSU, the final 2011 ITA Summer Circuit tournament was held this weekend at the Rams’ University Tennis Complex. Colorado State's Tori Arneson clinched first place in the women's singles bracket, while Kaley Schultz and Veronika Wojakowska secured first place in doubles.
The round-robin format consisted of three CSU players, Arneson, Schultz and Wojakowska, while also welcoming eight other incoming freshmen and collegiate players.
Out of eight competitors in the women's bracket, Arneson and Schultz won their first two rounds on Saturday, which then set them to play each other in the final round Sunday. In play on Sunday, Arneson defeated Schultz in the final, 6-3,6-2, securing her as the women’s singles champion.
Despite falling in a second-round match to Schultz, Wojakowska advanced forward for a chance at second place on sunday. In the final round, Wojakowska defeated Brittany Warly of Santa Clara, 7-6(6),6-3, allowing her to clench second place.
In women's doubles, Schultz and Wojakowska also took first place as the pair defeated its opponents in all three rounds of the round robin.
Out of three players competing in the men's singles circuit, Conor Holton-Burke of Whitman College won each round robin, allowing him to take first place in men's singles.
The ITA circuit tournament hosted by the Rams was the last of four consecutive open tournaments on the schedule for the ITA Mountain Region. The USTA/ITA National Summer Championships in August will be the next circuit tournament and matches will be held in Bloomington, Ind.
