FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Colorado State tennis player Abby Stevens finished her freshman year ranked No. 20 in the Mountain Region. The rankings were released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) earlier this week.
"Abby was able to get into the rankings due to significant improvement by the end of the season,” commented Head Coach Jon Messick. “She had late wins over two players ranked ahead of her which established her as a strong competitor among the best players in our region. For a freshman to be ranked among the elite players bodes well for the future of our program."
Stevens moved into the No. 1 singles position for the Rams at mid-season, and excelled, compiling a 3-6 record in the top spot, facing strong competition from around the Mountain West. She is 2-0 at the No. 4 position and 5-4 at No. 2 after going 9-4 in fall tournament play.
Stevens posted a 20-14 overall singles record last year, earning all-Mountain West honors.
