FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Rams have drawn record crowds to indoor matches over the winter, enough to rank ninth in the nation in average home attendance.
Average NCAA women's tennis attendance, 2011
1 Florida State 370.0
2 Georgia 282.0
3 TCU 217.5
4 Ohio State 144.0
5 Baylor 139.0
5 Tennessee 138.0
7 Florida State 128.1
8 Illinois 122.0
9 Colorado State 116.5
10 Notre Dame 87.8
But while the Miramont Lifestyle Fitness facility they use for indoor matches is an outstanding venue, it's not able to accommodate a large number of fans.
With the weather warming up, the Rams hope to draw an even larger crowd later today when they host their first dual match at their new outdoor facility. The $2 million complex, located near the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and the corner of Centre Ave. and Research Blvd. just north of Drake, can seat many more fans.
CSU hosts Weber State today at 1 p.m. The Rams will wear pink to raise awareness for the fight against breast cancer. A free lunch will be served beginning at 12 p.m. to any fans in attendance. Admission and parking to CSU tennis matches are free.
For those that can't make the match, live scores are available on CSURams.com here.
Later this spring, the new complex will host the men's and women's Mountain West Conference tennis championships, April 27-30. CSU also has a home match at the facility on April 23, against Air Force.
