Feb. 13, 2004/Colorado Springs, Colo. - The Colorado State women’s tennis team notched its first win of the season, defeating the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Friday at the Air Force Academy. Colorado State came from behind in three of the six singles matches and finished with four singles wins on the day, Texas Tech, however, defeated the Rams in all three doubles matches to earn the point. With the win, Colorado State moves to 1-2 on the season.
Junior Dasha Zhurin and freshman Emily Kirchem, picked up two come-from-behind wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 positions respectively. Zhurin defeated Irina Tereshenko 0-6, 6-1, 7-5, coming back from a 1-5 deficit in the third to pick up the win. Kirchem defeated Kendall Brook 4-6, 6-2, 5-2, coming back from a 2-5 deficit in the second to pick up the win. Charity Malone and the No. 4 postion and Tatyana Ugorich at the No. 5 postion also had singles wins for the Rams.
In doubles action, Texas Tech won all three doubles matches to earn the point. The team of Dasha Zhurin and Emily Kirchem at the No. 1 position had the closest match for the Rams, losing to Irina Tereshenko and Kendall Brooks, 8-5.
The Colorado State Rams will be back in action on Feb. 20 when they head to Boise, Idaho, to face Montana State. The following day the Rams will take on Boise State. For updated information and results check out www.csurams.com.
