FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State women’s tennis will debut its 2011-12 team Friday evening at the Miramont Indoor Tennis Complex against Arkansas State.
Matches will begin at 6:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public. This season the Rams boast a variety of new talent with three new players.
CSU comes into fridays match off a 5-2 loss to Denver. Despite the loss, Colorado State showed improvement from years past. Leading the Rams last weekend was Nos. 3 and 4 Kaley Schultz and Natalie Heffron.
Arkansas State on the other hand, comes off a 6-1 victory against Tennessee-Martin. Leading ASU was No. 1 singles Mariana Rong as she defeated Jodie Tiley 6-3, 6-1. The Red Wolves only loss came at the No. 4 position where Biljana Miloshevska fell in a third-set tiebreaker.
Friday's match will mark the first time the two teams have met in recent years.
Last season, ASU was eliminated in the second round of the Sun Belt Conference Championships with a 4-0 loss to North Texas.
The Rams wrapped up their season in similar fashion, dropping their chance in the second round to No. 1 seed Utah 4-0.
The Rams will next take on in-state rival Colorado on Feb 11 in Boulder.
