FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State women’s tennis team fell to Wyoming, 7-0, Saturday afternoon at the University Tennis Complex.
“I thought we played at a high level and we really improved our play today,” said Head Coach Jon Messick. “We had our chances; we had match point at six, we had a tiebreak at five and we had a match point at No. 2 doubles. I thought we were a lot more competitive today, which leading into the conference tournament, is really good for us.”
“LP (Lauren Pick) and Kaley (Schultz) are both characters, and they have both meant a lot to both me and players on the team, and I’m really going to miss them,” Messick said. “They’re always competing hard, their attitudes have always been great and they’ve always had great leadership. I think the team is going to miss them and I’m going to miss them.”
In doubles, the Rams dropped two out of three matches, giving Wyoming the doubles point. On their senior day Schultz and Pick were paired together in doubles play and were narrowly edged by a final score of 8-7.
In singles Wyoming captured three consecutive victories at No. 3, No. 1 and No. 2, to seal the match. Mollie Cooper was very competitive at the No. 4 position against Crista Gecheva, but just wasn’t enough as she was defeated 6-1, 7-6 (4). The Cowgirls went on to defeat the Rams at Nos. 4, 5 and 6 to secure the shutout.
The Rams will resume play when they travel to Fresno, Calif., for the Mountain West Championships on Thursday, April 24.
