FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State women's tennis team defeated Northern Colorado Friday afternoon, 4-3. After sweeping the Bears in doubles, the Rams went on to defeat UNC at the Nos. 1, 2, and 3 positions in order to secure the match for CSU.
The victory over UNC pushed the the Rams to a record of 5-12, 0-4 MW, while forcing the Bears back to 9-7, 5-2 BSC.
In doubles, Colorado State swept Northern Colorado, defeating the Bears in all three positions.
The closest of the three matches was at the No. 1 position where Tori Arneson and Kaley Schultz drew the match to a tie-breaking decision before defeating the Bears' pair 9-8 (7).
In doubles, Colorado State notched the Nos. 2 and 3 positions in order to gain a three-point lead over UNC.
The first to fall for the Rams was Veronika Wojakowska at No. 4, falling 6-1, 6-3 to Stephanie Catlin, 6-1, 6-1. Wojakowska's defeat was followed by younger sister, Adriana Wojakowska, as he was also defeated, 6-2, 6-4.
It didn't take long for Colorado State to rebound as the Rams tallied wins at the No. 1 position in order to ensure CSU's victory over UNC.
Last on the courts was Emese Kardhordo at the No. 5 position, failing in a third-set decision to Jennifer Buchanan of UNC, 6-2, 4-6, 6-0.
Colorado State will return to the courts Saturday to face off against Wyoming in their final home match of the season. Saturday's match will be a special senior day, recognizing those in their final season with the Rams.
