PROVO, Utah - The Colorado State women's tennis team fell Friday afternoon, 6-1, against Mountain West opponent BYU at the Cougars’ indoor courts.

Colorado State senior Melissa Holzinger was the sole CSU player to win, defeating Kelsie Craig at No. 6 singles in a tie-breaking third set, 10-7. Holzinger won the first set, 6-1, then lost the second, 4-6.

The Cougars swept the Rams in the three doubles matches. Tori Arneson and Caitlin Fluegge were the last to finish as they posted an 8-4 loss against their BYU opponents, Callie Craig and Megan Price.

In singles play, Fluegge at the No. 1 position gave the Rams early hope as she extended her match to a third set with Price before eventually falling, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Colorado State (7-8, 0-3 Mountain West) went on to suffer losses at Nos. 2-5, allowing the Cougars (8-8, 3-1 MWC) to clinch the win.

CSU remains in the state Saturday, making the drive north to meet Utah in another conference matchup. Play will begin at 11 a.m. MDT and will be held at either the George S. Eccles Tennis Center or Coach Mike's Tennis Academy, depending on temperature.
