Fort Collins, Colo.-The Colorado State women's tennis team dropped their third straight conference match to #27 BYU by a final score of 5-0.
The Rams and Cougars played a match to four points. This was to condense the match time due to the match being moved to Denver. The final score of 5-0 was caused by the No. 4 and No. 5 singles matches finishing around the same time.
In singles play, the Rams lost each of the five matches. At No. 1 singles, Emily Kirchem dropped her third straight match after being defeated by Anastasia Surkova, 6-1, 6-2. At the No. 2 position, Lauren Strasburger moved to 6-5 in 2007 with her lost to Lauren Jones, 6-4, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, Laura Neal fell to Chie Hayasaka, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. At No. 4, Hilary Tyler was defeated by Kristina Doerr, 7-6, 6-3; she moves to 6-6 in dual play. At No. 5 singles, Anette Pohjalainen lost her third straight match after falling to Sofia Holden, 6-4, 6-4. Pohjalainen remains the team leader in singles victories with eight wins thus far in the 2007 season.
"This (BYU) was the best team we'll play all year. If you looked at the results of the three, four, and five matches, they were pretty close," head coach Jon Messick said. "This is the #27 ranked team in the nation and we played them pretty tough."
The Rams return to the court Friday, March 30th, when they face Utah at Greeley Workout West at 4:00pm.
