LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Colorado State women’s tennis defeated the Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles 5-4 Saturday for its second consecutive victory. The two teams played in Division III format thus each match, including doubles, counts for one point.

In singles, The Rams picked up victories at the Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4 positions. Natalie Heffron looked strong at the No. 1 position as she defeated Leora Hemmerich 7-5, 6-3. Mollie Cooper also looked strong for the Rams as she dominated the Golden Eagles’ Tiffani Shaik in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.

I told the team after the match that I am really proud of them,” said head coach Jon Messick. “We’re playing singles without two of our top players, so the way we stepped up today was outstanding.

Lauren Pick and Maddie Buxton both came from behind against their opponents to secure wins for the Rams as well.

“I was very proud of Maddie and LP the way they came from behind to get wins for us” Messick said.

The Rams struggled in doubles play as the Golden Eagles took two out of three matches from the Rams. Heffron and Pick secured the point at the No. 1 doubles position as they defeated the Golden Eagles’ Hemmerich and Sydney Postal 9-7 to secure the overall match for the Rams.

Colorado State will next travel to Denver on Tuesday March 25, to take on the Denver Pioneers at 2 p.m.
