COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. - The Colorado State women’s tennis team won its second dual match of the spring season Sunday, defeating Rhode Island 6-1. In the victory Adriana Wojakowska won her second singles match in as many days, defeating Rhode Island’s Karolina Wojciak 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 4 position.
“I think that we played very well today, and it was a very one sided match,” said head coach Jon Messick. “I think that it had been great for us to get healthier as a team, and to get Kaley Schultz back in there in doubles was great for us today. We played exceptionally well in doubles, and I have been very impressed with our doubles play all year long. I think today was a good overall win.”
The Rams won the doubles point, by winning two out of the three sets. Natalie Heffron and Wojakowska won their second straight doubles match at the No. 3 position by defeating Rhode Island’s Elizaveta Sadovnikova and Kristin Bertsch 8-3. Kaley Schultz and Kendall Heitzner dropped the next set against Galina Chernykh and Kathleen Uy 8-5, at the No. 1 position. Abby Stevens and Mollie Cooper then defeated Nithila Asokaraj and Karolina Wojciak 8-3 at the No. 2 position to seal the doubles point for Colorado State.
In singles, Colorado State won five out of the possible six singles matches to clinch the overall match. Maddie Buxton picked up her first dual win of the spring defeating Rhode Island’s Lauren Benoit 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 6 position.
The Rams will resume play when they travel to California to take on Cal State Fullerton Wednesday, March 20 at 2 p.m., and Cal State Los Angeles Saturday, March 23 at 11 a.m.
