EL PASO, TEXAS.- The Colorado State women's tennis team lost a tough match to UTEP, 4-3, Sunday, in El Paso, Texas.
"I think that our performance today was pretty night-and-day from our performance yesterday," said head coach Jon Messick. "I am vey proud of how our team performed today, we really competed hard out there. There was a lot of improvement over yesterday's match for the entire team. We took two out of the three doubles points this weekend, and once we get healthy as a team I think that really bodes well for us."
The Rams picked up the crucial doubles point by defeating the Miners in two out of three sets. Kendall Heitzner and Lauren Pick defeated Jaime-Leigh Michau and Anastasiya Sylenko 8-2. Abby Stevens and Mollie Cooper stayed undefeated in doubles this season by defeating Marie LeBlond and Gabi Vazquez 9-7, at the No. 2 position, to clinch the point.
In singles Stevens defeated Martina Trierweiler 6-3, 6-0 to give the Rams a 2-0 advantage at the No. 2 position. Cooper captured her first dual victory of the spring season by defeating Sylenko 5-7, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 5 position. The Miners then took the next four points to capture the overall victory. LeBond defeated Adriana Wojakowska in a back-and-forth match at the No. 4 position to keep the Miners undefeated at home.
The Rams will look to capture their first home win of the spring season when they take on Air Force Saturday, March 9, at 5 p.m., at Miramont Lifestyle Fitness.
