FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Entering his third season at the helm of Colorado State swimming & diving program, Head Coach Christopher Woodard has built his largest signing class, adding 15 student-athletes to the Rams' roster. Woodard's class was finalized on Friday.
The athletes are: Allison Arnold, Jenna Beaury, Erin Chavet, Laura Conoscenti, Madison Evans, Jarren Fallgatter, Alexandra Jacobs, Lauren Kuechler, Megan Lloyd, Gabby Morley, Elizabeth Prasse, Karin Roh, Stephanie Vosicka and Emily Williams.
Additionally, diver Melissa Bollig, a transfer from New Mexico, is already enrolled in classes at CSU, and will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning in January.
"There was a good amount of talent out there that was interested in us," Woodard said. "This will be a larger class than we'll generally have in the future, but the character and the potential we saw in these girls was worth signing a larger class to build for the future."
Arnold, Lloyd, Prasse and Roh signed during the early signing period in November. Seven of the new additions are home grown, hailing from Colorado: Arnold, Bollig, Chavet, Evans, Jacobs, Morley and Roh.
"We are doing our best to continue to recruit this area," Woodard said. "It's one of the best recruiting states in the nation, and year in and year out we want to build relationships with the local teams and coaches and find the diamonds in the rough; there are plenty of them out there in this state."
Williams is from just up the road, in Laramie, Wyo. She and Bollig and Chavet will join a young but proven diving squad, in which three underclassmen qualified for NCAA Zones this past spring. As a freshman in 2011, Bollig, then at New Mexico, qualified for NCAA Zones and earned a top-eight finish in all three diving events at the 2011 Mountain West Championships. She is originally from Franktown, Colo. Williams was a Wyoming state champion, while Chavet was Colorado's 4A Diver of the Year and an AAU Nationals qualifier.
Beaury, a native of Flower Mound, Texas, was selected captain as a senior, and after being named her team's most improved player as both a sophomore and junior, earned her team MVP award as a senior. She is a three-time regional qualifier, placing first in the 100 Breaststroke in 2013. At the Texas state championships, she ranked second. The Rams will look to Beaury to make an immediate impact, as her 100 and 200 Breaststroke times rival some of CSU's top times from this past season.
Fallgatter comes to CSU from Bismarck, N.D., where she earned all-conference recognition three times. She was also a three-time all-state participant. She is expected to excel primarily in sprint freestyle events.
Jacobs is one of the promising local highlights, originally from Colorado Springs. For Coronado High School, she was a two-time team MVP and finished her prep career with six school records. As a senior, she was named the Colorado Springs Metro League Swimmer of the Year, and earned first-team all-area honors. She is a 13-time finalist at the Colorado High School Championships, and qualified for nine individual events at the Western Sectional Swim Championship Swim Meets. As a freshman, she earned a long course state championship for the 400 IM.
Conoscenti, from Cocoa Beach, Fla., was a four-time Cape Coast Conference champion, and earned a regional championship in the 100 Butterfly in 2011. Evans, from Windsor, Colo., was a four-time all-conference selection and the Tri-Valley Athlete of the Year. Kuechler earned her team's MVP honors three times, and holds the Coppell High School record for the 400 Freestyle Relay. Morley, from Centennial, Colo., competed in five freestyle events in high school and was a scholar-athlete. Vosicka, from Brentwood, Calif., earned all-league status and broke Heritage High School's record in the 500 Freestyle.
Other highlights from the signing class include a Canadian Olympic Trials qualifier (Lloyd), two All-Americans (Arnold and Roh), three Academic All-Americans (Kuechler, Prasse and Vosicka) and countless all-conference selections and school record holders.
"We saw a lot of growth from our freshmen this past year, and now the challenge is making sure they do something new each year to build off of that first year and get better," Woodard said. "We expect the same from this group coming in."
The signing class helps replace CSU's 10 graduating seniors from this spring, including NCAA Championships qualifier Breann Fuller. The Rams went 2-7 in 2012-13, but finished on a two-meet winning streak, and showed plenty of strengths in championship-style events, including finishing seventh at the Mountain West Championships.
"There are so many new personalities; it'll essentially be a completely new team," Woodard said. "I'm excited about the direction this program is headed, and I'm ready for them to get here and start working out with our team."
