SAN ANTONIO, Texas—Another day of the Mountain West Swimming & Diving Championships, and another school record shattered. The Rams, led by a record-breaking time in the 400 Medley Relay, picked up 51 more points in Day 2 of the Championships, to remain in eighth place.

"The bright spot was that we set another school record, but overall, we had a rough day," Head Coach Christopher Woodard said. "It's disappointing on some fronts; we needed some people to step up and score, and unfortunately, we found ourselves in the bonus more than the consolations, and the consolations more than the finals."

The highlight was again the relay team, which for the second straight night set a school record. The team, made up of Breann Fuller, Kelly Mathews, Arianne Lujan and Tess Simpson, placed fifth. Their time of 3:42.27 was 1.46 seconds quicker than their prelim time, and 19-hundredths of a second faster than the previous record, which was set in last year's championship. Mathews was also involved with that relay team, as was Yana Garvey, Fran Mathias and Kim Schemahorn.

"Breann led the team off with a 53.21, and again, she's the fastest backstroker out there," Woodard said.

Freshman Ariana Milone placed sixth in the 3-meter boards with a score of 309.45. Not only was the score the second-highest on the season for a CSU diver, but it was also nearly 33 points higher than her preliminary score, which qualified her for Thursday night's finals.

Competing in the consolation dives were Paige Greely (278.70, 12th place), Chelea Kelly (263.52, 15th) and Maxelise Thorn (250.08, 16th).

"Diving was stellar," Woodard said. "They did a fantastic job, led by Paige, Chelea and Max in the consolations, and Ari doing a phenomenal job by placing sixth overall. We had some very good performances, and hopefully that will be a shot in the arm for us."

Also competing in the finals were Mary Foster (500 Freestyle), Fuller (50 Freestyle), Lujan (200 IM) and Jessica Shepard (200 IM).

Foster placed 21st in the 500 Freestyle (4:59.74), Fuller placed 19th in the 50 Freestyle (23.43), and Lujan and Shepard earned 15th and 19th, respectively, in the 200 IM.

"We had one score on the swimming side with Arianne having a pretty good swim," Woodard said. "Even though we missed in the 50 and 500, we had some strong swims and saw a lot of positive things."

CSU (102 points) is currently ahead of Air Force (96), and behind San Diego State (291.5), Nevada (186), UNLV (178), Wyoming (173), Boise State (165.5), New Mexico (157) and Fresno State (148).

"We talked about resiliency," Woodard said. "It's frustrating looking up at the leaderboard, but hopefully we can be a disciplined and resilient team, because most of our stronger events are still ahead of us."

Day 3 of the Championships will continue tomorrow with the 400 IM, 100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke and 100 Backstroke. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. MT, followed by the finals at 5:30 p.m.

Fuller holds the school record in the 100 Backstroke, and has twice earned a MW title in the event (2009 and 2010).

As it will be all weekend, live video streaming will be available for the night swims, beginning approximately at 5:30 p.m. MT. View the MW Championships Central page for live video streaming, results, team scores, photo galleries and more.
