The Rams diving program again will be under the direction of eighth-year head coach Kevin Witt. Over his seven seasons at Colorado State, Witt has tutored divers who have made the finals in every event of the Mountain West Championships.
The Colorado State diving program will again be under great leadership in 2013-14, as CSU alum Kevin Witt returns for his eighth season. Witt has tutored divers who have made the finals in every event of the Mountain West Championships.
The 2012-13 season showed hints of greatness, and the future looks even brighter for the Rams. Three Rams divers qualified for NCAA Zones a year ago, and all three are back with at least two years of eligibility remaining. Ariana Milone and Paige Greely, both freshmen last year, rank among the top-five performers in CSU history, and Milone earned All-Mountain West honors for her success on the boards.
The three NCAA Zones qualifiers was tied for the second-most in the Mountain West, and was CSU's largest representation since 2004-05.
Witt is no stranger to coaching in the area, serving 10 years as the head diving coach for the Poudre School District. In that role, Witt was in charge of managing the training and competitions for 20 to 25 athletes from Fort Collins, Rocky Mountain, Poudre and Fossil Ridge high schools each season. He coached both the men's and women's seasons, as well as handling the supervision and training throughout the year.
Additionally, Witt continues to manage the Fort Collins Diving Club. He is the owner and operator of a private United States Diving Member Club age-group team. His responsibilities as head diving coach and owner include all coaching duties involving weight training, conditioning, and year-round training and competitions.
Under his supervision the Poudre School District and the Fort Collins Diving Club have produced more than 50 high school state finalists, 17 Colorado High School State Champions, 14 National Interscholastic High School All-Americans, one National Interscholastic High School national champion, and multiple zone and national Junior Olympic qualifiers, as well as one Junior Olympic national 1-meter champion and two AAU National Champions on both the 1 and 3-meter springboards.
More than 30 of the high school athletes that Witt has mentored have gone on to dive for NCAA Division I or Division II programs across the country.
The Colorado High School Swim Coaches Association named Witt its Coach of the Year four times. He's also been named the Colorado Girls 4A Diving Coach of the Year (2000), Colorado Girls 5A Diving Coach of the Year (2001-02), Colorado Boys 5A Diving Coach of the Year (2002), and Colorado Girls 5A Diving Coach of the Year (2004-05).
Witt graduated with a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Colorado State in 1993. He went on to receive his master of arts in elementary education from the University of Northern Colorado in 2000.
