LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Colorado State junior shortstop Ashlie Ortega on Tuesday was honored as a member of the 2013 Easton Fastpitch All-America second team. Ortega is one of 22 student-athletes named to the Division I All-America first and second teams.

A native of Brighton, Colo., Ortega paced the Rams in nearly every offensive category in 2013, hitting a team-best .381 with 39 runs scored to lead the CSU to a second consecutive second-place finish in the Mountain West.

A back-to-back all-Mountain West selection in 2012 and 2013, Ortega led the Rams with 11 doubles, while adding four triples and six home runs for a team-best .647 slugging percentage. Ortega also boasted one of the Rams’ top on-base percentages (.472) by notching 24 walks on the year. On the bases, she was a near perfect 5-of-6 in steal attempts, while notching a .937 fielding percentage with 94 putouts and 98 assists in 44 games (all starts) at shortstop.

Ortega is the sixth CSU player to earn Easton All-America honors, and the first since standout third baseman Lauren Cusick also garnered second-team accolades in 2008. The Rams have also boast a pair of first-team honorees in Jessica Strickland (2006) and Kerry Farrell (2004), and two third-team selections in Stephanie Roberts (2005) and Ricki Walker (2003).
