Junior Jessica Strickland has been selected to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America second team. The nod is a first for Strickland, who is a three-time All-Region selection. Strickland was named to the second team as a designated player.
Strickland led the team in nearly every offensive category including overall batting average (.415), while hitting at a .382 clip in conference play. Strickland ranks near the top of the MWC in a number of categories and also appears on the national charts in multiple places. Her .415 batting average and 0.98 runs per game rank 28th and 20th, respectively and her 0.35 doubles per game is 14th in the nation.
Strickland becomes the seventh All-American selected in softball at Colorado State University, and the fourth in as many seasons under head coach Mary Yori. She joins players like Sarah Fredstrom (first team, 1997), Jennifer Buford (second team, 1997), Nikki Johnson (second team, 1997), Ricki Walker (third team, 2003), Kerry Farrell (first team, 2004) and Stephanie Roberts (third team, 2005).
Strickland was also one of four players from the Mountain West Conference to be selected. Ianeta Le'i (BYU) and Jackie Wong (Utah) were also selected to the second team, and Erin Floros (San Diego State) earned third-team honors.
