COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State senior shortstop Caitlan Stem added another all-Mountain West honor to her career résumé on Tuesday afternoon, when the MW announced its 20-player 2011 softball all-conference team, as voted by the league’s six head coaches.
Stem, who also earned all-conference honors in 2009 and 2010, becomes the fifth player at CSU to earn three or more all-Mountain West nods, joining Ashley Munoz (2007, 2008 and 2010), Lauren Cusick (2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008), Jessica Strickland (2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007) and Stephanie Roberts (2003, 2004 and 2005).
A four-year starter from Broomfield High School in Broomfield, Colo., Stem overcame a slow start to the 2011 season to once again post stellar numbers in Mountain West action. She led the conference in doubles (6) while tying for the league lead in and total plate appearances (56) and at bats (50). Stem also ranked among the MW leaders in RBIs (tied for fourth, 16), assists (tied for fifth, 28), total bases ( sixth, 31) and hits (tied for eighth, 16).
She closed her career ranking among CSU’s all-time top five in at bats, runs, hits, doubles, RBIs and walks.
