The All-Mountain West Conference Softball awards as selected by the league's six head coaches were announced today in conjunction with the start of the Mountain West Conference Softball Championship in San Diego.
Colorado State sophomore Steph Roberts was named the Co-Player of the Year, while head coach Mary Yori was named the Coach of the Year and Roberts, senior Jen Mahoney, junior Megan Masser and junior Ricki Walker were all named to the All-Conference team.
Roberts is batting .364 on the season and leads the MWC in stolen bases with 17. She is also second in the conference in runs scored (44) and doubles (13) and has a .636 slugging percentage, a .462 on-base percentage and eight home runs. In MWC play, she leads the league in hits (25), runs scored (22), home runs (7) and total bases (53) and is second with a .424 batting average and .898 slugging percentage.
Mahoney is the starting third baseman for the Rams and is third on the team in conference batting average at .333 and is third with a .400 on-base percentage. She is also second on the team in assists with 48 and is the only senior in the starting lineup.
Masser set the MWC junior single-season record with a 1.53 ERA and was the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week this week after getting three victories and a save in the six contests. She ranks second in the conference in opponents batting average and broke the junior record with a .201 average.
Walker is the starting first baseman for the Rams and ranks fifth in a single season at CSU in three offensive categories: home runs (8), slugging percentage (.634) and RBIs (40). She did not commit an error in 164 chances in conference play to lead the conference and her 159 putouts ranks fourth all-time in league history.
Colorado State finished second in conference play with a 13-7 record and received a first-round bye in the league tournament which begins tomorrow at San Diego State. The Rams will face the winner of the BYU-UNLV game at 2:00 p.m. (Pacific).
