CSU will wear pink for Friday's series opener vs. San Diego State to raise awarenes for breast cancer.
May 1, 2013
GREELEY, Colo. – An overnight snow storm that has dropped as much as six inches of wet spring snow on the Northern Colorado region has caused the cancellation of Wednesday’s scheduled softball action between the Colorado State Rams and the Northern Colorado Bears.
The game, originally postponed from April 17 because of snow, will not be played this season. The Rams and Bears had met once this year, with CSU capturing a 10-0 victory at Ram Field on March 6.
Colorado State (21-22, 7-5 MW) will now turn its attention to a key weekend series with Mountain West leader San Diego State (30-17, 8-4 MW). The Rams are one game behind the Aztecs in the race for the conference championship, and have an opportunity to overtake them in front of a home crowd heading into the final weekend of the regular season. Colorado State closes its regular-season schedule May 9-11, traveling to Albuquerque, N.M., for a matchup with last-place New Mexico (21-29, 3-9 MW).
This weekend’s series between the Rams and the Aztecs features a number of fan-friendly promotions and celebrations:
- Friday’s series opener (4 p.m. first pitch) is the Rams' annual "Pink Out" game to raise breast cancer awareness. The players will wear pink jerseys for contest, and all fans are encouraged to wear pink. The best dressed fan will earn a prize pack from CSU Athletics.
- Friday's opener will also serve as the team's salute to faculty and staff. Each member of the team will be accompanied by a CSU faculty/staff member of their choosing during an on-field ceremony before first pitch vs. the Aztecs.
- Saturday's second game of the series will be followed by the inaugural Athletics Staff vs. Coaches home run derby. Teams, made up of CSU Athletics staff and Rams coaches, will face off against one another with bragging rights, and the "Golden Helmet" trophy on the line.
- Prior to Sunday's series finale, the Rams will celebrate “Senior Day” and the careers of pitchers Kacie McCarthy and Kailey Snyder who will be in uniform for the last time at Ram Field.
