COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado State junior third baseman Chelsea Biglow has earned her second Mountain West Player of the Week nod in less than a month, after leading the Rams to a 2-1 series victory over the Fresno State Bulldogs that catapulted the team into a tie for first place in the league standings.
Biglow, a Tigard, Ore., native, hit .500 (4-for-8) with two RBIs in and four runs over the weekend. She collected three extra-base hits in the series, including one triple and two home runs, to post a 1.500 slugging percentage. Biglow recorded key hits in both ends of Saturday's doubleheader sweep of the Bulldogs. She hit a solo home run in the fifth inning of the opener to tie the contest at 1-1. In the bottom of the seventh with CSU trailing 2-1, Biglow reached base on a bunt single to advance the leadoff hitter to second, then scored the game-winning run two batters later for the 3-2 victory. In the nightcap, Biglow led off the fourth inning with a solo home run to spark a six-run rally as the Rams erased a 3-1 deficit and held on for the 7-4 win.
The award marks the third MW Player of the Week nomination for the Rams this season. Biglow was also tabbed on April, while teammate Ashlie Ortega earned the league POW nod on Feb. 19.
Biglow and the Rams (20-20, 6-3 MW) return to the diamond this weekend, traveling to Boise, Idaho, for a three-game series (Friday-Sunday) against the Boise State Broncos (19-23-1, 3-6 MW). The Rams are tied atop the league standings with San Diego State (28-16, 6-3 MW). The Broncos took two of three from the Aztecs last weekend.
