The Colorado State softball team completed a three-game sweep of Utah State with a 10-1 victory in five innings Sunday afternoon at Ram Field. With the win, the Rams improve to 14-6 on the season, while Utah State drops to 0-8.
For the second straight day, the Ram offense was sparked by junior Stephanie Roberts and freshman Brittany Huerta. Roberts finished the day 2-for-3 from the plate with two runs scored and an RBI. She also stole her team-leading third base of the season in the fourth inning.
Huerta hit 1-for-2 on the day, with a grand slam home run to centerfield which capped a six-run fourth inning for Colorado State and put the Rams ahead by nine runs. The home run was Huerta’s third long ball in two days.
Junior Brittany Burtner was perfect from the plate, hitting 2-for-2 with two RBI and crossing the plate twice as well
Senior first baseman Ricki Walker recorded an RBI-double down the left field line, her team leading ninth double of the season, and also scored a run for the Rams.
Sophomore right-hander JayCee Wood picked up the victory for CSU, allowing only four hits, one run and one walk, while striking out three Aggie batters. Wood’s record now stands at 3-1.
The Rams will conclude their first homestand of the season on Tuesday, March 9, with a doubleheader against the Southern Utah Thunderbirds. The first game is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m.
